This man exudes infectious warmth and humour, Fummey is a beguiling presence, replete with gags and a proper understanding of the Scottish wars of independence. This is a marvellously entertaining and unusual creation. This is an hour in the company of a delightful Scot, with an intelligently placed, Sassenach-shaped chip on his shoulder. Take your brain to see him, he’ll put stuff in it, and you’ll feel the better for it.

A commanding stage presence, superb comic timing and accurate historical research are the hallmark features of a Bruce Fummey show. His blending of Scottish history and sharp, contemporary humour works wonderfully well.

Fantastic value for money - not only was I getting some fine Fringe comedy, but I was learning something about the country that hosts this Festival. … Fummey completely won me over.

About the Jacobites

After two successful Fringe shows, the first about physics and the second covering Tam O'Shanter, Bruce will this year make his third appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe in a show 'About the Jacobites' This continues the theme of 'educomedy' where you enjoy ah hour of laughter, yet come away wiser than you were before. Shows will again be in The Beehive in Edniburgh's Grassmarket and will run from 1st to 25th August. Shows will commence at 8.00pm. Last year's show was a sell out and I hope that this year will be equally enjoyable. You will learn about the romantic, violent, cathartic and of course hilariously funny period of Scottish history.

Bruce Fummey’s routine is funny, tinged with a theatrical quality, and is sustained right to the end for what seems a very short hour.

Edinburgh Fringe 2006

Bruce FummeyAfter a successful Edinburgh Fringe show in 2005, which combined Bruce’s two careers of science teacher and stand up comic, Bruce will be back at the Fringe this year with a show based on his interest in the works of Robert Burns.

This year’s offering, entitled ‘About Tam O’shanter’ will take an hilarious sideways look at Burns’s famous poem, it’s background and it’s meaning. The show is topped off with Bruce’s stirring rendition of the poem that Burns himself considered his best work. When Bruce’s performance Tam O’Shanter has, in the past, been described as ‘stunning’, ‘fabulous’ and ‘The first time I’ve really understood it!’

The show will once again be in the Beehive Inn in The Grassmarket, an area well trodden by Burns’ footsteps whilst in Edinburgh. Shows will start at 8.15pm and will run from 2nd to 26th August.

Tickets will be available from the Fringe Box office and www.edfringe.com

The new CD Tam O'Shanter and other tales, by award winning folk singer Jim Malcolm can be purchased on his website.

Westsound radio Burns Supper

This year Bruce toasted the lassies at the Westsound Radio Burns Supper held in Glasgow. This is one of the biggest and most prestigious Burns Suppers in the world. This was a great event and full details are available on the Westsound Radio website. As well as being aired on Westsound Radio and Radio Clyde, you will be able to download an audio recording of this event from www.westsound.co.uk

London

April sees Bruce heading off down south to the big City. Bruce is taking time during the school’s Easter holidays to do some gigs down in London, including London’s famous Comedy Store as well as several others.

Edinburgh Fringe 2005

Bruce Fummey is already established as the finest comedian on Afro Celtic comedy circuit but he is also one of the country’s funniest physics teachers. During the Easter holidays, in April, Bruce completed filming for Stand up and be counted, a programme to be aired on Teachers TV during the summer. This is a search for the country’s funniest teachers and will offer a sneak preview of Bruce’s own brand of comedy physics which he brings to the Edinburgh Fringe this year in….

The Greek the Apple and the Time Machine

The Greek the Apple and the Time Machine takes you from Aristotle to Einstein with laughter all the way. Gags, gags and more gags. This show is succulent stand up in a sauce of Bruce’s vivacious charismatic style all served up on a bed of science.

A mild mannered physics teacher by day and the funniest comedian on the Afro Celtic comedy circuit by night. Bruce says: ‘Many people have said to me over the last year that a physics teacher doing stand up comedy it is a strange combination. I think teaching is just doing stand up comedy and slipping in a bit of education when the kids aren’t looking.’

This show is proof that you can teach physics with gags and that physics teachers can be hilariously funny. It tells you everything they never taught you in high school physics. The science is accurate, the gags are funny, but this show is not for your granny.
